News and Events

In addition to the Newsletter available to our members, SIGILLVM publicizes news and events such as conferences and recent publications.

This event is organised by the Archives Nationales and the THEMAM team of UMR 7041 ArScAn. The day will examine part of the documentary corpus, the diplomas of the Merovingian kings, considering their various aspects (supports, writing, language, seals, reinvestments) in light of recent discoveries. It will emphasise the potential of investigation that they offer and the fruitfulness of the pooling of knowledge, both for historical research and for the valorisation of heritage, through the perspectives of conservators, physicists, medical doctors and historians.

Microarchitectures médiévales. L’échelle à l’épreuve de la matière (INHA/Picard) is a new collection of essays, edited by Jean-Marie Guillouët, Amdre Vilain that discusses a wide range of objects in the Middle Ages that used architectural features, such as ivories and metalwork. Seals feature prominently in this publication, which draws on a major conference held by the Institut national d'histoire de l'art in Paris (INHA) in 2014.

A launch event was held in Paris by the INHA, and further information on the publication can be found at the INHA website.
